PONTE VEDRA, Fla. -- A house fire in the 2500 block of South Ponte Vedra Boulevard left the resident uninjured but several pets dead.

The St. Johns County Fire Rescue responded to the fire around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday and found the fire in the main living area. 

The home’s occupants escaped safely, but three dogs were found.Firefighters attempted resuscitation but all three perished. 

Firefighters responded again Thursday morning after winds re-ignited the fire in the roof. The fire was extinguished without incident. Total damages were contained to the first floor living area and the roof.  Other areas sustained smoke and minor heat damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by SJCFR and the State Fire Marshals Office.
