Jacksonville Participates in Statewide Event to Promote Florida’s Beaches

The Great VISIT FLORIDA Beach Walk, held Nov. 6, anticipates to kick-start Florida tourism after a summer soaked in oil spill news.  Floridians will rally to celebrate the Sunshine State’s sandy shores and show the world – with photos from each of the 825 miles of Florida’s beaches, including 21 miles of Duval County beaches – that Florida’s beaches are as beautiful as ever.

PGA TOUR to Recieve Special Award for Continuous Philanthropy Throughout Our Communities

The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) International will present a special honor to the PGA TOUR for the organization’s efforts in surpassing the $1 billion mark in charitable giving in 2005.  AFP International President & CEO Paulette V. The 2nd Annual Free to Breathe 5K Run/Walk Nov. 6th

The 2nd Annual Free to Breathe 5K Run/Walk and 1 Mile Walk for the benefit of Lung Cancer will be held November 6th in Ponte Vedra at Mickler’s Landing.  There are over 370 registered participants and $92,000 raised to date.

Jacksonville Couple Chosen for First Times Square New Year's Wedding

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- How many guests make for a "full house" at a wedding? One local couple will have about a million.

Bethany Philips and Geoffrey Dubie, who live in Jacksonville,  met in Iraq while serving in the U.S. Marine Corps.  They live in Jacksonville.

They entered a contest to be the first people ever married in a ceremony at Times Square on New Year's Eve.

After looking through nearly 2,000 entries, Get Married Media chose Philips and Dubie to say "I do" as the ball drops with the world watching.

Philips, originally from Georgia, is heading to Florida State College Jacksonville to study nursing, and Dubie, from North Carolina, is studying at Jacksonville University.

The couple chose Jacksonville to start their life together after their service in the military.
