St. Augustine Community Ballet's Nutcracker: Tickets on Sale Now

A special holiday event, The St. Augustine Community Ballet’s Nutcracker will be on stage at Flagler College Auditorium from December 17 through December 19. Artistic director, Luis Abella and choreographers, Rogelio and Lydia Corrales have assembled a cast of over 50 performers that includes local talent as well as professional dancers.  Students from eleven St. Johns County schools, homeschoolers and two Palm Coast schools are in the production as well as some local St. Augustine ‘celebrities.’

Abella and Corrales met when they were nine years old while attending a boarding school in Cuba where they studied ballet. Both men graduated from the National School of Ballet in Havana and at different stages in their lives decided to defect from Cuba. After meeting up many years later in the United States, the two often talked of staging a production of the Nutcracker together.  That dream was finally fulfilled last year when they produced the Nutcracker in St. Augustine. This year the production returns as part of the newly formed non-profit group, St. Augustine Community Ballet.

This holiday classic is filled with spectacular scenery designed by Florida School of the Arts Scenic design instructor, Robert O’Leary, beautiful Sugar Plum fairies, falling snow, dancing mice, fighting soldiers, and of course, the Nutcracker. The world famous ballet is a family favorite and a holiday tradition for audiences of all ages.
