Schools Open Next Week, Be Cautious of Children

St. Johns County Sheriff David Shoar is warning residents and visitors that with schools opening next week, drivers need to be cautious of children walking or riding to school or waiting at bus stops throughout the county.

Sheriff’s Office PSA’s and uniformed deputies will be dispatched to any areas where there may be traffic congestion in an effort to alleviate problems. In addition, deputies will be at school zones around the county to monitor those zones and to issue citations.

Florida's sales tax holiday starts Friday at one minute after midnight and lasts through Sunday.

The three-day back-to-school tax holiday eliminates state and local taxes on more than 130 items, including certain clothes, footwear and backpacks costing $75 or less.

As the new school year approaches, the Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce is encouraging businesses to remind employees about the importance of the first day of school and provide greater flexibility for employees during the first two weeks.

St. Johns County School District Free and Reduced Lunch Policy

 Tools 4 Schools School Supply Drive Kicks Off

St. Augustine, Fla.—The St. Johns County Education Foundation (SCJEF) will begin its two and a half week long school supply donation drive today, August 1, as a part of its annual Tools 4 Schools program. The drive will run until the 17th of August with public and internal donation sites located at select businesses in the area.

St. Johns County School District Encourages Early Kindergarten & New Student Registration

The St. Johns County School District is encouraging parents to register kindergarten students and new students to the county and/or the public school system before school begins on August 22.

Elementary and middle schools are currently operating out of their area high school but can be contacted at their regular phone number. Hours of operation are 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Schools will return to their campuses on Monday, August 1.
