Mother: Teacher called my daughter a 'terrorist'

ST. JOHNS, Fla. -- A student in the NJROTC program at Nease High School said she was called a "terrorist" by a teacher. Now, the mom wants to know why that teacher hasn't been suspended.

"I couldn't believe that her teacher called her a terrorist, and she was dressed in her naval cadet uniform," said Lisa Smith, the student's mother.

It happened at Nease High School in St. Johns County. The principal, Kyle Dresback, said he's talked with the teacher, and issued a "letter of correction." The letter says in part the teacher has to have a classroom that is inviting, and "students should want to participate without fear of inappropriate comments."

"I don't think it's enough," said Smith. "To blurt out the word terrorist, to call my teenage daughter a terrorist is way past inappropriate," she said.

Smith said she expected more when it came to discipline.

JEA lifted the boil water advisory for Ponte Vedra

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- JEA lifted the precautionary boil water advisory Saturday morning to certain customers in the Ponte Vedra area.

According to a JEA press release, the area that has been lifted includes the 2300 block of South Ponte Vedra Boulevard (U.S. A1A) south through the intersection of South Beach Drive from the Atlantic Ocean on the east and the Intracoastal Waterway to the west.

JEA recommends that customers flush water lines for three minutes after water returns in order to remove any air and possible sediments from the lines.

The advisory that was sent out September 26 stated that the issue was due to reduced water pressure or outages occurring as a result of a broken water distribution line which was struck by a private landscape contractor during the process of installing a large tree.

For more information regarding the lifting of this advisory please contact JEA Customer Service at 904-665-6000.

Web.com Tour honors military wives with giant baby shower

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- The Web.com Tour Championship is being held this weekend at TPC Sawgrass and Friday was Military Appreciation Day at the course.

One of the events was put on by The Jim and Tabitha Furyk Foundation and Operation Shower: A larger than life baby shower for moms and moms-to-be whose men are deployed overseas.

Forty-one future moms were showered with gifts and camaraderie.

Tanya Naidoo-Brantley is expecting a baby girl on January 3. She says she doesn't know if her husband, who's in the Navy, will be back by then.

"Well we don't know," she said. "We're thinking it may be around Christmas, so we're hoping he'll be home for the birth."

Seated at her table were other military wives and future moms. Considering we live in a Navy town, it's probably not a coincidence all the women were married to sailors.

The coincidence came when these total strangers began talking and laughing together.
