Taking a Weekend Trip to Orlando? Don't Order Pizza

Remember the pizza-flyer scam talked about in January?

Police were concerned that the flimsy pieces of paper advertising $9.99 pizza pies and a 1-800 number were really scams to get hungry tourists to fork over their credit card information. Florida legislators ultimately passed a law - with Walt Disney World's backing - to crack down on flyer distribution.

Phishing Scam Targets Credit Union Members

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Kimberly Medrano does international business on her computer so it is not unusual for the bank to call and verify her card transactions, but Medrano said the call she received Wednesday was different.

"It was automated," she said.

The recorded message requested her bank information, all 16 digits of her account in an apparent phishing scheme to steal personal information from her. And she was not alone.

"The only thing unusual is they did not say they were VyStar, it only said it's your bank," said Medrano.

Medrano called her credit union to verify the call and discovered she was not the only one receiving the automated messages.

"They said they had a very large influx of calls concerning this matter," she added.

Two Men Hailed as Heroes after Baby-On-Board Carjacking

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- It was a terrifying five minutes for one First Coast family after being carjacked in a Krystal drive-thru.

"I thought 'he's going to kill me. This is really happening. He's going to kill me,'" said Kelli Broadfoot.

Just after placing her order at the drive-thru, police said James Johnson forced his way into Kelli Broadfoot's truck- and she didn't waste any time fighting back.

"I'm hitting him and kicking him, and he's hitting and kicking and pushing," she said.

Johnson said Broadfoot hit her in the face several times, before forcing her out of the car, and speeding off with 13-month-old Lindsey still in the truck.

"When she hit the ground, she bounced right back up (and screamed) 'My baby!' It was not good," said witness Ben Kelly.

He was in the drive-thru line right behind Broadfoot and witnessed the whole thing.

Have You Been E-Pickpocketed - Without Even Knowing it?

Have You Been E-Pickpocketed - Without Even Knowing it?

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- It can happen anywhere. In an urban shopping center like the Jacksonville Landing or a sporting event like a baseball game.

"Is this a good thing or a bad thing? " ask one cardholder.

Bad - it can happen right under your nose.

New technology used in smart cards, speed passes and newly issued passports make it easier for a pickpocket to steal your card information.

It is called electronic pick pocketing. Walt Augustinowicz, a former insurance executive, has the ability to walk through a crowd and pickpocket credit card information.

"The biggest vulnerability is the fact that they don't know," said Augustinowicz.

St. Johns County Offers Law Handbook for Teens

St. Johns County Offers Law Handbook for Teens

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -- A year-long project aimed at helping youngsters stay out of trouble has culminated with a new handbook.

The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office, the State Attorney's Office, St. Johns County School Board and the PACT Prevention Coalition worked together to create the "Know the Law" Handbook for middle and high school students in the county.

The four agencies contributed experts who spent the past year researching and writing to come up with relevant, important information.

They want students to take the handbook home and discuss it with their parents.

Drugs, alcohol, tobacco, parties, weapons, cyber crimes, gangs and even driving are covered in the handbook, which explores the consequences of poor choices and actions.
