Chabad @ the Beaches Presents 8th Annual Gala Dinner

A capacity crowd is expected at the Ponte Vedra-Jacksonville Beaches Chabad Center 521 A1A North, in Ponte Vedra Beach on June 12th at 5:00 PM.

At this event we will be honoring Mr. and Mrs, Michael and Fiona Scharf. From Chabad at the Beaches’ inception Michael Scharf and his wife Fiona have been incredibly kind and philanthropic. Michael’s parents, Blanche OBM and Aaron Scharf have been long standing members of the Ponte Vedra Jewish community. Mrs. Blanche Scharf passed away in 2005. Mr. Aaron Scharf still resides in Ponte Vedra and is also a friend and supporter of Chabad @ the Beaches.

This dinner will give us the opportunity to rename the Chabad Center the Aaron and Blanche Scharf Center for Jewish Life.

Michael Scharf is the past Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Niagra Corporation, the world’s largest independent producer of cold finished steel bars. He is likewise held in esteem for his host of communal and humanitarian endeavors. Among the many organizations and institutions benefiting from his leadership are his own Congregation, the Palm Beach Synagogue, where he serves as the synagogue president, Park East Synagogue, the Lubavitch Youth Organization, Chabad Houses in many areas of the United States, and Yeshiva University, where he is a member of the Board of Trustees.

The evening will feature a delectable four course dinner. At Chabad @ the Beaches, we are taking our annual dinner to another level with Reuven Russell, an accomplished actor and comedian with an extensive theatrical background. He has been seen on ER, and in the feature films Chaplin, Inside Monkey Zetterland and The Proprietor. He originated the role of Hersh in the Off Broadway debut of The Quarrel and. has toured nationally in Neil Simon’s The Sunshine Boys starring Mickey Rooney and Donald O’Connor.

A graduate of the Yale School of Drama, Reuven teaches Theatre and Public Speaking at Stern College for Women and is the Artistic Director of the Stern College Dramatic Society. He is a husband and father of five, and is the son of comedian and Jewish humorist Joey Russell.

During the dinner, Mr. Yehuda Ben Simon will be receiving special recognition for his unparalleled work in beautifying our Chabad center. Yehuda has helped with repairs and construction of our center as well as countless acts of helpfulness throughout the years that we have known him. Yehuda is dedicated to his family, friends and his community. It is our pleasure to be able to show some proper recognition to Yehuda for all that he has done

Mrs. Judy Naftulin Geller Nevel will be receiving the Aishet Chayil/Women of valor award. Judy is a beloved friend to many, teacher to thousands and an inspiration to all those she meets. Judy was a public school teacher for over 50 years. She also teaches music and has been doing so for 65 years. Judy brings light and love of G-d, humanity and the Torah to all those she encounters.

Dinner guests will be addressed by friends of Chabad, and community leaders. Guests will be treated to a special showing of a video presentation highlighting Chabad Lubavitch’s continued enormous growth around the globe.

The dinner will highlight the vast educational and social work of Chabad around the world in general and Chabad in Jacksonville and Chabad @ the Beaches in particular, which is testimony to the vision, passion, and leadership of, the Lubavitcher Rebbe. In Florida alone there are 147 Chabad institutions, 5 of which are in the Jacksonville area. This year 10,000 children attend Chabad's 10 schools, 37 pre-schools, 45 Hebrew Schools, and 21 summer camps.

We are currently gathering greetings and well wishes from friends and associates of the Scharfs, Yehuda Bensimon and Judy Geller and Chabad @ the Beaches (to honor Chabad’s seventh anniversary) for our dinner journal. It is this event that provides much of the funds necessary to maintain our programs.  Thank you in advance for keeping us in mind with your early response.
