Search for the Most Innovative "Green" Office Product

With a goal of searching worldwide for the next great idea for environmentally preferable office products, Staples is giving Jacksonville-area college students an opportunity to compete for a $25,000 grand prize if they submit a 1,000 word description of their idea by Dec. 23, 2010.

Through January 9 – Prehistoric Predators – Walk alongside the dinosaurs!  Encounter a soaring Pteranodon with a 23-foot wingspan, a Maiasaura mother caring for her hatchlings, a Pachycephalosaurus, Apatosaurus, Albertosaurus and more in the limited-engagement exhibit, Prehistoric Predators.  Dinosaur models are handcrafted based on fossil records and equipped with internal computers, making them look – and sound – like the magnificent beasts that once roamed Earth! 

Wednesdays – Half-Price Half Days – Beginning at noon each Wednesday when school is in session, students receive 50% off MOSH's regular admission prices. Reduced rates are $4.00 for students 3-12 and $5.00 for students 13 and over. Students under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Discount may be applied toward college students with id.

Beaches Museum & History Center Opening Shell Exhibit

The Jacksonville Shell Club will present a multi-faceted look at shells including the scientific, cultural and aesthetic aspect of these natural creations. Featured components of the exhibit at the Beaches Museum & History Center, exhibited from November 9, 2010 to January 8, 2011 will be regional mollusks, shells and mollusks in fine art, jewelry, craft work and day to day usage through history. The major themes include the science of malacology, including breathtaking photographs of living mollusk animals and their shells. The clubs 2009 group project, a book of 803 local marine shells titled “Marine Shells of Northeast Florida” will be on display and available at www.neflshells.org.

Legally Blonde The Musical Coming to Jax Jan. 16th

LEGALLY BLONDE THE MUSICAL will begin performances at Jacksonville’s Times Union Center’s Moran Theater on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 and will play through Sunday, January 16, 2011. Tickets go on sale Sunday, November 7, 2010.

3rd Annual "Food for Fines" at the St. Johns County Public Library

The St. Johns County Public Library System will kick off its 3rd Annual “Food for Fines” program next week. Food for Fines permits patrons to bring one sealed, non-expired, non-perishable food item to the library in exchange for each $1 in overdue fines. The program will run November 8 – December 22, 2010. Last year, more than 10,000 food items were collected, surpassing the 8,000 items collected in 2008.

Upcoming Exhibits at the Beaches Musuem & History Center

The Sensuous Shell by John Kuss

Exhibit Opens November 9 and runs through January 8, 2011 at the Beaches Museum & History Center. John Kuss is a fine art photographer who lives in Jacksonville Beach, Florida and has photographing for over 20 years. John has worked with Getty Images and Corbis Images in New York City. “There is something magical about shells” Johns says. John has a unique technique he used for some of his most popular pieces.
