Gate River Run Entries Set One Day Record

Entries for the upcoming March 12 Gate River Run set a one-day record yesterday, with 702 runners registering on-line, according to Race Director Doug Alred.  The previous record was set Jan. 31, 2010 with 475 on-line entries, representing a 38% increase over last year.  A total of more than 7,000 have registered for the 15K to date, compared to 6,200 on the same date last year.  Jan. 31 marks the race’s first checkpoint for entries each year.

“We have had record entries in the 15K signature event for the past 9 years,” according to Alred, “and so far 2011 is on pace for another record year for this 34th running of the race.”  Last year more than 20,000 participated in the 15K, 5K and Junior River Run.

The Gate River Run is Jacksonville’s largest participatory sporting event and is the site of the USA 15K Championship, attracting a top field of world-class American runners racing for more than $85,000 in prize money, the largest prize money purse of any major U.S. non-marathon event.

The day includes: The Florida Times-Union 5K Run & Walk for Charity at 8:30 am; 15K at 8:30 am; Brooks Rehab Challenge mile at 10:30 AM, adidas Junior River Run (1 mile) for children 13 and under at 11 am; Diaper Dashes for up to age 4 at 11 am; and a three-day Fitness Expo at the Jacksonville Fairgrounds Mar. 10 – 12.  All events begin and end at Jacksonville Sports Complex.

On-line registration and information is available at or by calling 904.731.1900.
